Torpoint Lady Singers Ladies Choir in Cornwall
Visit to Benodet, 22-26 March 2018 Torpoint Lady Singers

On Thursday, 22 March, a group of nineteen members of the Torpoint Lady Singers, including MD Sylvia Fraser and Accompanist Sue WEstwell, left Torpoint for two days of splendid events in Benodet and Dineault. (All photos by Paul Roper).

The ladies took with them 50 bunches of Cornish daffodils, one for each of the hosts.

The group arrived at Roscoff on Friday morning, and it was 12 noon when they all arrived at their hotel in Benodet, to be met by a welcoming party of members of Gwen Aod. The rest of the day was free to settle in to the hotel and have a look around the beautiful town. Below: In the evening, the group enjoyed a good meal in a local restaurant.

On Saturday lunchtime, the party was treated to a delicious crepe lunch in Benodet. Below: Gwen Aod presented the Choir with a wonderful framed picture - a photo montage showing the two choirs and their two home locations.

After lunch, the party proceeded to Dineault for an evening concert with Gwen Aod and another singing group. It was about 50 mins drive by coach to the north of Benodet. After the concert, refreshments for the three choirs were provided, after which the party were quite tired for the drive home. Losing an hour's sleep didn't help and it was 3 a.m. when we got to bed.

Most of Sunday was spent setting up and performing at the inaugural concert of the newly built Benodet Community Centre, a wonderful facility with many sports and public activities provided. Needless to say, the two choirs came together for a final rousing number.

The audience was extremely appreciative and there were few seats remaining. (Those in the front were for local dignitaries, not yet arrived.)

Hilda and Chris scooped two big raffle prizes at a post-concert reception, laden with fine petits fours and local cider. It was made even more special because Hilda's was drawn out early in the proceedings and it was her birthday!
